The tips and advice on camera surveillance systems that these people have to offer can save the installer the headaches that they have already experienced. Some of those tips are offered here to help get the process of choosing and installing a camera surveillance system underway.

What is the Security System For?

This should be one of the first questions asked. The way the system is going to be utilized will play a large role in the type of system installed as well as how the system is configured. There are many different reasons for installing a security system, such as:

Security of the home or business;

Observation of employees or household staff;

Intruder prevention and detection;

Fire and smoke monitoring

These are some of the more common reasons for installing a security system with camera surveillance. Homeowners like the peace of mind a camera system gives them when they are not home but want to be able to monitor their home and children. Businesses use the camera monitoring system to observe employees and ultimately provide a better customer experience through training and reformatting business practices based on what they observe. Deciding exactly what the purpose of the system is will help choose the right system and features for that system.

Computer Based or Digital Recorder

This is another decision that must be made before purchasing the system. If the system is simply going to be recorded to a DVR, there aren’t as many other factors to consider. On the other hand, if the system is computer based, the OS will have to be taken into account as well as how much memory the computer will need along with the hard drive size.

Linux and Windows are the two most common operating systems found in camera surveillance systems. Linux based systems are typically more expensive and more difficult to have repaired than Windows systems and so are the more common choice if a computer based system is chosen. Night Recording If the system owner anticipates needing the ability to record in dark areas, cameras must be equipped with infrared in order to capture movement in the dark.

Camera Type

It is best to determine what type camera is needed before the installation date or there could be problems and the cameras have to be replaced. Typical cameras include the PTZ or pan/tilt/zoom camera which allows for rotation of the camera through programming, while a stationary camera only captures what is in its lens view. The price difference between the two camera types is vast and thus the decision should be made prior to purchasing cameras.

Remote Access

If remote access is desired, the decision to go computer based will have already been made. Remote access of surveillance systems allows parents to check on the babysitter from a remote location and businesses to activate their PTZ cameras as needed, all without ever visiting the location of the system.

Is Cable Type Important

This question will only be important if the system owner is doing the installation. If a professional surveillance company is installing the system this won’t be a consideration; however, if the installation is being done by the owner of the system, CAT 5 is the typical cabling installed for IP cameras and analog cameras will do better with RG 59.

Power Supply

The last consideration should be the power supply. Again, this should be determined prior to making the final purchase of equipment. The power supply is an important component both in the continual power supply and in the backup power supply component. Distance will play a large role in the power supply; if the power is pulled over a long distance, it will lose voltage. The best bet for the power supply is to have a professional installer do the wiring for the power.

Regardless of who handles the power supply installation, there must be plans for a backup power supply. This is important in the event of a power outage. Many criminal activities take place during power outages and having the security cameras properly functioning during this outage will help deter criminal activity.

There are many more aspects of installing a security system with surveillance cameras that must be considered. The advice here is simply tips based on the experiences of other homeowners and business owners that have installed these systems. The key, as can be seen by the majority of the tips, is in the planning process of the system. Every aspect must be considered before any steps are taken to put the plan into action, doing this will help prevent any mistakes that have to be changed in order to reach the desired goal.

Car security cameras are bringing a new way to add security and create a piece of mind for the owner. Car security cameras are multifunctional devices that not only provide security but also protect the driver and its occupants.

Benefits of Car Security Cameras

The idea of a security camera in a car is relatively new and has many people wondering if they should invest in one for their car. Many new cars are equipped with security cameras straight from the factory which saves the cost of after-market installation. Car shoppers that understand the benefits that car security cameras offer will appreciate this feature. Some of the benefits of car security cameras include:

Deter theft. Thieves do not want to be on camera and thus get caught in the act. The presence of a camera is usually enough to prevent them from stealing the car.

Catch vandals. Car vandalism is expensive and most people never catch the vandals; however, when a camera is installed in a car, the vandals will be on film and easily apprehended.

Insurance savings. Many automobile insurance companies offer discounts for added security features such as car cameras.

Added safety. Many car cameras have a feature that allows the driver to see more clearly behind the car and avoid accidents.

Accident and incident recording. This is an added bonus that acts much like the black box in airplanes. Some car security cameras are activated by an internal sensor if there is an increase in force. This recording captures the entire episode making it easier for insurance companies and highway patrol to determine what happened.

Driver training. Car cameras can provide useful information to new drivers who watch their driving and learn from their mistakes.

There are undoubtedly many other benefits that owners of these cameras would add to the list. Every person will find that the camera aids them in many ways.

Police Use

The most common use of the car camera for many years was in police and highway patrol work. These cameras allowed the office to record every minute of a routine stop. This recording could then be used as an impartial witness to the events that occur, regardless of who commits any of the actions. These cameras have helped prove the office right in court and even helped catch the occasional rogue officer who loses their temper.

Accident Reconstruction

Car accidents are often difficult to reconstruct which makes it difficult to determine the cause of the accident and who was at fault. However, as previously outlined in the benefits of car cameras, the camera will record the accident in its entirety once the sensors are triggered. This can prove to be very beneficial, particularly when the driver is not accepting responsibility or leaves the scene of the accident.

Commercial Drivers

Many companies that have vehicles on the road install car cameras in order to monitor the vehicle and driver while on the road. This allows them to gauge how their drivers are operating the vehicles and make changes as necessary.

Types of Car Security Cameras

There are many different types of car security cameras that can be selected when having one installed after-market. Some of the camera types include:

Self Recorder: These cameras have a built-in laser indicator that is used to point to the direction that is going to be recorded. These typically have SD cards where the recording is stored. These are ideal for recording road conditions, weather and traffic flow.

Micro Eyes DVR Ballcam: This tiny camera is located inside of a ball shaped housing and is motion activated. The camera records the video on DVR.

Black Box Camera: This camera is the most up-to-date technology on the market. Technologically advanced, this camera records dual view video, essentially, the interior of the car and the roadway at the same time. The digital recorder also captures and retains GPS information, audio, speed and g-force changes. The camera can be set to record continuously or only when triggered by a change in g-force is detected.

Mounting Options

There are two typical mounting options, dash mounted and windshield mounted. Windshield mounting allows for a higher view of the roadway. Windshield mounting allows for a very clear view of the road. Dash mounted cameras are ideal for people that need a lower view point and is easily tilted to any viewpoint desired.

Car security cameras are new to many people and yet they are quickly becoming a security feature that is helping protect both cars and the people in them. Police and insurance agents utilize the information these cameras provide to offer more and better services to the public.

They are often used by allows a criminals whoa re out to wreck havoc on their victims in the dead of night. The glasses use high tech knowledge to allow the burglar to see in complete darkness. Well, that same technology can now be used to your benefit by helping you to see what is going on around your property, even when no visible light is available. Infrared security cameras can be a great asset to your surveillance program, allowing you or your security force to view the darkest areas of your property.

While most standard security cameras work wonderfully during the day and twilight hours, most simply do not offer a good (if any) picture during the darkest nighttime hours. Sometimes a shadow is visible, but rarely any type of clear picture. This can be dangerous since your security could be compromised during these darkened hours of the night, allowing predators’ access to your home or business.

Plus, if you own a home or business that features remote and hidden locations with little (if any) natural light sources, your traditional security cameras could be leaving you open to an intrusion – or worse. Dark stairwells, thick foliage covered outdoor areas and even darkened basements, garages and warehouse space may all be vulnerable spots in your security. This can be dangerous to your family or employees safety. So, what is the answer?

Infrared Cameras Work in Low and No Light Areas

Infrared security cameras offer a good option for these hard to see in areas. But, how do they work? Basically, infrared security cameras work by measuring the heat from a person or object and then using its longer wavelength to “see’ in the dark.

Since every object one earth emits some sort of infrared light and heat all of the time, this special kind of night vision can be used any where, regardless of the outside temperature, region, location or other external factors.

How Infrared Security Cameras Work

Using this basic philosophy, infrared security cameras are able to detect heat sources and see the infrared lighting being emitted by a person or object and record that movement all times of the day or night. When other light sources are available, the recording will appear to be in color, and when the area is completely dark, with no visible light source available, the images taken by the camera will appear in black and white on the monitoring screen and video. So, even if it completely black outside, your infrared security camera will be able to record what ever an intruder is doing simply by measuring their body’s natural infrared lighting.

By using LED lighting positioned outside of the camera lens, the camera can capture and record movements in the dark.

Don’t Confuse Infrared Cameras with Day/Night Cameras

When shopping for an infrared security camera, be careful not to confuse them with day/night cameras. Day night cameras do not use the infrared technology and therefore still need some sort of light to capture images on film; albeit they only need minimal lighting and therefore work well in dimly lit areas and rooms. In contrast, an infrared camera can work in absolute no light.

When trying to decide between a day/night security camera and an infrared one, consider the area in which you will be surveying. If there are times of the night when no light is visible (but you still need to see the area clearly), opt for an infrared security camera. While the image will appear in black and white on screen and film, it still will be visible. The better the camera, the clearer the picture will be. Areas that have dim or very low light may be better suited to a day/night camera.

Infrared security cameras can be quite expensive, and are generally not needed for securing the average home. Larger estates and businesses and/or warehouses, however may benefit from this type of night vision, especially if the property contains a lot of foliage and darkened areas where an intruder could enter the property. Be sure to talk with your security specialist to determine what types of infrared cameras (and how many of them) you will need to ensure that your entire property is being monitored in the way that makes you the most comfortable.

Today’s high resolution security cameras offer crystal clear pictures and sound as well as a variety of angles to view your surroundings.

With so many options available, you may be wondering which high resolution security camera system to buy. Here are a few tips to get you started in your search:

Consider Your Coverage Area and Distance

High resolution security cameras take better pictures then ever before. But, if you try and take in too large a coverage area or position your camera too far from what you are watching, the picture will not be as good as you might expect. Take a good look at your surroundings and then think like a criminal. In what area would a criminal most likely try to enter the premises or do harm? Make sure that your camera is situated and angled toward these areas. Be sure it is close enough to get a nice clear picture so that if something does happen, the police have all the evidence they need to make an arrest. This may mean buying more than one camera to cover the entire area. While this may add to your overall expense, it will also add to your overall security – and after all, isn’t that what you are after?

Determine Your Focal Length

In order rot get the best picture from your high resolution security camera, you must also determine the proper focal length. This will allow you to get the best magnification possible out of your lens. To determine the focal length of your high resolution security camera, use an online CCTV lens calculator. Simply answer the questions asked and it will tell you the proper focal length to use.

Consider the Price

No one wants to waste money on a security camera that is not needed, and it is very easy to overbuy when purchasing a security system. But, remember, if you try to hard to save a few bucks you will likely be disappointed with the results. The old adage “you get what you pay for,” is a very true statement when it comes to security cameras devices. The cheaper the model, the cheaper the manufacturing and that can means the difference between a quality camera and one that does not live up to your expectations.

Figure Out What Camera Type You Need

When it comes to buying a high resolution security camera, there sure are a lot of choices out there. From indoor cameras and weather resistant outdoor ones to motion activated cameras and spy cams, the variety of high resolutions security cameras is endless these days. To help make your decision easier, you will first need to become familiar with the most commonly used cameras out there. Here are just a few that may work for your security needs:

Bullet Cameras

Ultra small and weather resistant, these small cylinder shaped cameras offer higher resolution pictures in a format that allows the security personnel to hide the camera from view.

Dome Cameras

The most commonly used security cameras in high traffic areas like malls, hospitals, schools, offices and more, the dome camera offers high resolution pictures in a format that allows the camera to be slightly hidden form view so that those being watched do not feel uncomfortable.

Box Cameras

This box like high resolutions security camera is usually found out in the open in areas where security is expected like banks.

Choosing Your Final Resolution

When purchasing a high resolution security camera, your last decision will be the actual resolution. Generally speaking, the more lines of resolution offered in the picture, the better the picture will look. Most security experts suggest a high resolution of 450-480 for a good quality pictures. Crystal clear pictures are available in cameras with a resolution in 500-600 line range. Of course you can buy higher resolution cameras, but that probably is not necessary for most homes and businesses. Keep in mind though that any resolution under 400 will offer a fuzzy picture at best, so stay clear of these low priced models.

Finding the right high resolution security camera requires a bit of knowledge regarding the resolution lines, focal range and type of camera options available in order to choose the right model for your security needs. But, once you familiarize yourself with what the industry has to offer, you should be able to find just the right system to meet both your security needs and your budget.

In the past, keeping a good surveillance system running required installing security cameras throughout the perimeter of the property (both inside and outside), and then either hiring someone to internally keep an eye on things, or hire an external monitoring professional to oversee footage from a remote location. That is a cost both small and large businesses no longer have to worry about.

DVR Security camera systems are an effective way for anyone – including businesses, homeowners, schools and more – to keep a close eye on what is happening inside their buildings and throughout their property without the high cost of ongoing surveillance.

Installing DVR security camera security does not cost much more than installing standard cameras, yet they offer tremendous benefits.

The Ability to Use Your Existing Equipment

DVR security systems use a DVR video recorder in order to store footage from your existing cameras using modern digital technology. In most cases either an analog or a digital camera can be used. This allows almost anyone to switch over to this more reliable system without the cost of buying new security cameras. You will need a DVR system and/or computer monitor or TV screen to download and watch footage, however.

The Ability to Save Data

When using DVR security camera systems, you can set the camera to take ongoing footage, or you can set it up so that it is motion activated, thus taking footage only when some sort of movement causes the camera to turn itself on. Then, the camera takes high resolution video, storing it right in the system for future viewing. Most systems can hold hundreds of hours of surveillance video.

Depending on your needs, you can either have the camera beep or flash when it has reached its capacity, or you can set t so that it begins to erase earlier footage to make room for the new stuff when capacity is reached.

The Ability to Record Audio

Although most analog cameras do not offer an audio feature, if you will be using a security camera that offers audio, a DVR security system can also utilize this important feature.

The Ability to Control Camera Angles

Another good benefit of using a DVR security system is the ability to change camera angles, and zoom in on specific areas through your computer. Since the DVR system is generally hooked up to your PC, it is easy to adjust with a few clicks of the mouse. That way, if you notice something while monitoring an area, you can make the necessary adjustments right away. This can offer added security to any home, business or school.

The Ability to Find What You Need

In older surveillance systems, it was necessary to look through hours and hours of video in order to find exactly what you were looking for. Not so with today’s DVR technology. Now, you can simply make a search using the day, time or other type of information and the DVR will find the exact footage you want to see. This screening ability can save a lot of time when trying to located important data and footage.

The Ability to See Footage From a Remote Location

Another great benefit to using DVR security systems is the ability to monitor your footage from a remote location. Internet-enabled systems will even allow multiple users to watch the video simultaneously.

As technology increase within the security industry, more and more consumers are opting to install DVR security camera systems to help streamline their security features and make finding footage easier when a problem does arise.

Allowing virtually anyone to keep tabs on their family, employees or to just help monitor their property when they are not around, this easy to implement and use system can offer important information using ongoing footage taken from your existing security cameras.

Finding the Right DVR System

Ranging in price from less than $100 to several hundred dollars, installing a DVR security system is relatively cheap these days, making it an important security option for many. In many cases, you can find exactly what you are looking for at your local home improvement store; warehouse; security or audio system store or even the internet. Of course you will want to look for a manufacturer and brand with good recommendations and a full warranty. Depending on where you buy your system, you may even be able to try it out for 30 days before committing to a final purchase.

But, is solar power really the way to go in every aspect of your home life? As more and more homes (and businesses too), turn to solar energy for more efficient electrical power, some are left wondering how safe it is to rely on solar energy for their security systems.

Do Solar Powered Cameras Really Work?

If you are worried that solar powered security cameras will not work as well as their traditional electrical counterparts, do not worry – they do. Like other appliances in the home, security cameras powered by solar energy work just as well. They simply use a different form of energy in which to run. Of course you will want to familiarize yourself with how solar energy works and any limitations it may offer in order to ensure a good working system.

The Kinds of Solar Powered Security Cameras Available on the Market

There are two forms of solar powered security cameras:

Cameras which contain built in solar panels to power them

and standard-type cameras which run off of solar power used throughout your home

While each works well, they both offer their own pros and cons. Individual solar powered cameras may not have the same safeguards as those that run off of a larger solar powering system. In addition, backup power may be limited in the individual cameras.

The Importance of Battery Back-Up

Anyone who uses solar energy to power their home or business knows how important it is to have a backup energy source. While the sun is always available, it does not always offer the strength of rays that may be needed for full power at home.

Having a a good backup plan is especially important when dealing with your security system. In the event that your solar panels can not generate enough energy to keep your security system running, you will want to power it some other way. Batteries are usually a good alternative. Some cameras come with their own battery backup; while other systems need a complete battery backup system installed to keep the entire surveillance system working when the power goes out. Talk to your security system professional to see what type of battery backup will best meet your needs.

Figuring Out Your Load Configuration

Before relying on solar panels to power your security system, you need to figure out how much energy you will need. Otherwise, you may discover (too late) that your power needs exceed your ability to generate it.

When determining your load configuration, be sure to include every piece of equipment and energy user throughout the entire surveillance network. This includes:

security cameras

the control panel

all motion sensors

all security lights

any DVR recording device

any laptop or computer hooked into the system

Once you can calculate exactly how much energy your entire system uses, you will be able to determine how much solar energy must be produced to meet your security needs.

Professional Installation VS DIY Project

While it is always best to have a professional install your security system, some people can turn it into a great DIY project. As long as you have experience with electrical systems and solar power you should be able to install and maintain your system with little outside help. However, always be sure to seek professional help when questions arise. Installing a solar system is not as simple as installing a traditional wireless one and may need some extra help to get it done correctly.

Maintaining Your System

One of the great things about having a solar-powered security camera system is the fact that it is virtually maintenance free. This makes it an especially good option for remote areas and homes which may be left unattended for long periods of time. The biggest maintenance chore is checking on your solar panels to ensure that they have not been damaged during high winds or a storm. Keeping them clear and clean is important too, to ensure that you reap the biggest advantage from the sun’s rays.

Using alternative energy to power your security system can help save hundreds of dollars in annual electrical costs, plus leave you with a maintenance free system that you rarely have to think about. That is good news for many homeowners who want toe added security of surveillance cameras without the hassle and expanse of hiring a professional to install and take care of them.

Why an Outdoor Security Camera System Can Keep You Safe

True, an outdoor security camera may not be able to deter theft, burglary or a break-in. But, it can help to deter criminal activity by alerting burglars that your home is being watched.

In most cases, criminals try to avoid homes that are being monitored. Why? It is simple: they thrive on getting in and out of a home as quickly as possible. Anything that might alert people to their presence: an alarm; a barking dog and yes, a surveillance camera, will send that mischief maker off to the next house and leave you and your family home alone.

Now, that does not mean that just because you install an outdoor security camera that your house will remain victim free, but it will help to keep instances low.

How a Security Camera Can Be Used When Filing a Claim

Now, let’s say that your house or car is broken into or vandalized. That security camera can now be used to help identify the suspects; prove to your insurance company that your claim is valid; and even show you how the deed was accomplished so you can tighten up security of your property.

With so much insurance fraud these days, it can take weeks or even months to get your claim paid under normal circumstances. Not so if you have security footage showing the suspect performing the deed. In most cases, having this type of footage can help to speed the process of your claim with your insurance carrier.

How to Choose an Outdoor Security Camera System

Now that you know how important an outdoor security camera system is to your family’s welfare, it is time to go shopping for your new system. But, which one to choose? When choosing an outdoor security camera system, there are a few things to keep in mind:

The area that will be under surveillance. It is always best to install cameras in dimly lit areas; hidden access areas as well as the main entryway. Depending on the size of your home, this may require a single wide lens camera, or several smaller ones. Be sure when choosing your camera model that it can handle the entire area you want to watch. Also, consider adding motion sensors and lights to darkened areas for even more protections.

The type of camera you will need. Some people prefer motion activated cameras that turn themselves on and begin recording when motion is detected in a specific area. Others want ongoing surveillance with 24/7 recording. In addition, you may want to consider whether or not you need a camera that can swivel from side to side, to take in more of the area, or one that is set in a single direction. DVD recorders are also a good option, able to digitally record much more information as standard cameras, as well as send those images to your computer for monitoring.

The weather the camera will be subject to. Weather can be a big issue when it comes to security cameras. Be sure to buy the sturdiest camera you can afford if you live in an extreme weather area. It doesn’t matter if the camera must endure sweltering heat and sun rays or frigid temperatures, it must be able to handle the weather or it simply will not work properly. Another thing to consider is whether or not to install a wired system or wireless one. If you live in an area prone to large storms, then a wired system usually works best. While wireless ones are easier to install and maintain, they tend to lose their signals more often in severe weather conditions.

Price. Cost to can be a real factor when choosing your security camera system. Lucky for most homeowners, the average price for this type of system is about $300; with some costing as little as $100 and others costing hundreds more. But, it is usually possible to get a good system for an average home for $300-$500 which includes the cameras, access panel and motions sensors.

Outdoor security camera systems are one way to keep an eye on your home and property and keep your loved ones safe and secure. Easy to install; virtually maintenance free and simple to sue, an outdoor surveillance system can help to thwart any criminal activity and keep your loved ones form becoming the neighborhood’s next crime victims.

It does not matter whether you are trying to keep an eye on your nanny; your spouse; your employees or even an elderly parent, today’s high-tech spy cameras offer a new way to keep a watchful eye on your home and business, even when thousands of miles away.

When shopping for a spy camera, you will want to first consider why you need one. If you are trying to keep an eye on someone without their knowledge, you will want to get the smallest, most easily hideable spy camera available. But, keep in mind that some of these spy cameras also have a limited running time. So, if you want to record for long periods of time, you may need a larger model. Luckily there are plenty of versions that can be easily hidden behind walls and mirrors or even inside of everyday objects found around the home.

Also, think about eh weather conditions that your camera will be in. Outdoor usage requires water proof and weather resistant models, while indoor use can use just about any type of model as long as the temperature does not fluctuate much.

Lastly, you will want to decide whether you want a wired system or a wireless one. True, wireless spy cameras are easier to use (and can be readily moved about), but they can lose their signal from time to time. Wired cameras are usually put into place and left there (they aren’t portable), but tend to give good reception regardless of the weather or other signal disruptors.

Still not sure what kind of spy security camera you need? Let’s take a closer look at a few common models to help you decide which will be best for your special surveillance needs.

The Bullet Camera

A small, high quality spy camera that can be used both indoors and out (although it is not waterproof). Easily concealed in everyday objects, this high powered camera is popular among surveillance experts due to the higher resolution pictures it offers as well as its versatility.

The Pen Camera

An extremely compact — and portable camera – that looks very much like a standard pen, the pen camera takes high resolution video and is easy to use, even for those with no security background.

Hidden Spy Camera

Want to hide your receiver and camera in everyday objects like a child’s stuffed toy; a clock; pillow, picture, cap and more? The color hidden spy camera is very versatile and can even see through walls and doors! That way, you can put it wherever you like in the house and watch what’s going on in each room when you are not there via a wireless receiver sending messages straight to your laptop, TV or smart phone. One warning though: be sure to put it in an object that will not be moved around during the surveillance time For instance, a child’s toy may sound like a good place to hide a nanny-cam, until your child walks around the house with it, and then leaves it on the floor in one room while he/she is in another room with the babysitter.

The Clock Camera

A great permanent surveillance solution, this small spy camera is placed inside of a wall or desk clock, where it can monitor what is going on in a specific room or office. Great for keeping an eye on nannies, teens, employees and even wayward spouses. It does, however, offer a limited view of the area or room.

Consider the Cost: How Much Is a Spy Camera?

As you might imagine, you can spend thousands of dollars on a quality spy camera. But, you can also pick up a cheaper version for less than $100. The average price for one that will do a good job for most people is $200-$500. The less you pay, the less options and versatility you will get, but even the most inexpensive model can usually see for about 100 feet and record what’s happening within its built-in receiver.

Not everyone needs a true spy camera to keep an eye on what is going on in their home or office. But, sometimes, a little extra surveillance may be necessary. If you do find yourself in the market for this type of hidden surveillance system, first think about what your needs are and who you really want to spy on. Then choose a camera model that can be as versatile as you need, while still getting the action recorded you want to check out.

It seems as if everyone wants to protect their belongings more and more and want ongoing monitoring to ensure their safety.

Whether you are a nervous homeowner; a small businessman; a school administrator; a church deacon; or the president of a large corporation, the odds are good that you have thought about internal surveillance of your building and property from time to time.

Maybe you already own a security system, but feel the need to upgrade. But, the cost of a brand new system is just too much to bear right now. What are your options?

An IP security video camera system offers the ability to use your current system and hardware, integrating the new IP service into it; thus upgrading your entire service.

How IP Security Works?

Network IP Security video camera systems are a good way to upgrade your surveillance by using whatever internal network you already have in place. This alleviates the need to rebuild your entire security system. Instead, all you must purchase are the new cameras and let the network stay in place. This gives you state of the art video surveillance without the hassle of rewiring your entire home or business.

Fully Customize Your Service

By allowing the user to utilize their existing network, an IP security system is easy to customize to best meet your current needs. Future upgrades are also easier to install and implement.

Using a secure internet service, an IP security camera system can be monitored from anywhere in the world 24 hours a day; seven days a week. Depending on how high-tech your current surveillance system is, you can continue with the same type of service, with little if any upgrades; or you can increase your surveillance options using a multitude of new equipment and security options.

Some of the benefits of using an IP security camera system include:

the ability to monitor the surveillance of your property remotely

the ability to use digital recording services

the ability to get high resolution pictures on your video surveillance

the ability to fully customize your surveillance system

the ability to install coders and decoders

the ability to use your existing system for easier set-up and cheaper installation/equipment costs

Who offers IP Security cameras Systems?

As you might expect, most of the major manufacturers like Bosch, CBC (Computar Ganz), GE Security, ioimage, IQeye, Mobotix, OnSSI, Pelco, Panasonic, Samsung Techwin, Samsung GVI, Sanyo, and Sony, all offer IP camera and their systems to help you create the security program that best works for your individual circumstances.

What Is an IP System Going to Cost?

Ranging in price form a few hundred dollars, to a few thousand, most IP security cameras cost about $500-$600. How many you need depends a great deal on how big your property is and what you are looking to record in regards to surveillance video. Most cameras offer a 1,000 square foot range for the best definition.

As you can see, installing IP cameras is not cheap, but it does offer the absolute best options to today’s high-tech security industry. Be sure to meet with a qualified security system agent to go over all of your options and see how an IP security camera system can help to bolster your home or business security.

Selecting the Right IP Security Video Camera System

There is a lot to consider when looking for a quality IP camera surveillance system. Here are just the highlights:

Consider how far away the camera will be looking. Close up shots will require a zoom lens system; while more far away shots will require a lens that can handle panoramic views of an area.

Consider the viewing angle. In conjunction with how close or far away your camera will be shooting, think about how wide of an angle you will want to shoot. If your camera is meant to simple watch for who is coming and going through your front gate, then you will need a much wider lens then one that must scour the sweep of a larger area.

Consider how you want your camera to move. Some security cameras simply stay in one place, but others can tilt, pan, and zoom on request. These, of course, are more expensive options to consider.

Consider the time of day your camera will be working the hardest. If nighttime security surveillance is what you are after, then be sure the system and cameras you choose can handle taking nighttime photos. On the other hand, if most of your surveillance will be during the day, be sure that your cameras take good daytime pictures in brighter lights.

Consider the quality you are after. We have all tried to make out a person in a fuzzy security picture. Consider how often you will be checking those films and what you will likely be looking for. If you need good details in that footage, then opt for a higher quality camera that can offer the higher resolution you are after.

Choosing an IP security camera system really does mean taking the time to check out what the industry offers and thinking about how you will be using your security cameras over time. After all, a good system is important, so be sure that the one you choose offers the options you want –and need – the most.

That way every nook and cranny can be viewed, regardless of how obscure or hidden the area may be.

Standard security cameras are good at watching gateways; doorways and larger open areas like backyards and driveways. But, if you have any hidden access points, or dark corners and other places where mischief makers can hide, then a motion activated camera may be a better answer to keep your home and family safe.

Every home has areas where extra security is needed. Maybe it is a basement entryway that is hidden from normal view. Or maybe you have some windows that are located away from anyone’s eyesight where an intruder could easily manage to hide in order to gain access to your home without being detected. In these types of places a motion activated security camera can alert you of danger (and record any trouble), without having to run the camera 24 hours a day.

How Motion Activated Security Cameras Work?

Motion activated security cameras are always at the ready; but they are not always recording. Instead, they record when a sudden motion is detected and they continue to record until either the motion stops or a set time programmed into the system has elapsed. For instance, you may set your camera to record for 10 minutes each time motion is detected. High tech systems may even alert you that the camera has been turned on via a light; beep; or email/text message.

Although some homeowners may not like the fact that a stray animal or even blowing debris in a storm can activate this type of security camera, many like the option of having the system begin recording when trouble is suspected. Plus, it is much easier to find what you are looking for in your security footage since you do not have to sit through hours and hours of video surveillance. Instead, the camera only records when motion is detected, which can cut down on your monitoring time and allow you to easily locate footage from a certain incidence.

What Type of Motion Does Your Camera Capture?

How delicate the system you install will depend on your own comfort levels. Each system is different, and while some may begin recording at even the slightest movement, others may require some major movement in the area in order to turn themselves on. Think of it like a motion censored light. Some come on if the wind picks up and others need a person to actually walk in front of it to activate. The same is true for your security cameras.

Why You May Need a Motion Activated Security Camera?

Motion activated security cameras are great for use in hidden access areas that you want to keep a closer eye on. They can also be helpful when trying to monitor the comings and goings of your family members. For instance, a teenager trying to sneak in after curfew will be caught on tape when the camera recognizes their movements near the back door when the system is turned on. Of course anyone trying to enter or leave the premises will also activate the system.

How to Install a Motion Activated Security Camera System

Depending on the type of security system you decide to install, you may have to hire a professional to come in and wire your home, or you may be able to handle the job all on your own.

Today’s security cameras come in several varieties:

Hard Wired – these are a more traditional type of recording and surveillance system which are literally wired into your home’s electrical system. Installing this type of system requires special know-how and a lot of drilling and wiring expertise. An electrical failure can disrupt the system, but oftentimes a battery backup is all that is needed to give you uninterrupted protection.

Wireless – wireless systems work off of the internet and can usually be installed by homeowners. Simply follow the directions offered in the kit to get your cameras up and running. Remember though, that when your wireless connection is disrupted, your security system will fail to work.

As you might well imagine there are pros and cons to both kinds of systems, and which you ultimately choose to go with will be an individual decision. Just be sure that the motion activated security cameras systems you decide to install offer the options that you want and need to keep your family and your property safe from intruders. Carefully review each style and model and compare the pros and cons of each.
